Papa Was a Rollin' Stone (etc.)

These were two of the Temptations' four US No. 1 hits. They reached No. 13 and 14 respectively in the UK charts.

Their other two US No. 1 hits were My Girl (1965) and Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me) (1971).

My Girl was their first UK hit, reaching No. 43. It reached No. 2 in 1992, when it was re–issued on the Epic label – their highest ever placing on the UK charts. Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me) was also a Top Ten hit in the UK, reaching No. 8.

Their first entry in the UK Top Ten was in January 1969 with I'm Gonna Make You Love Me, which was a collaboration with Diana Ross and the Supremes. This was the first of three single releases from the 1968 album Diana Ross & the Supremes and the Temptations; the others were I Second That Emotion (No. 18 in 1969) and Why (Must We Fall in Love) – No. 31 in 1970.

The Temptations had two other UK Top Ten hits in their own right: Get Ready (No. 10, 1969) and Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today) (No. 7, 1970). They also featured on Rod Stewart's 1991 No. 10 hit The Motown Song (on the Warner Brothers label).
